WGSN Seminar

on Tuesday, May 24, 2011
On 3rd May 2011, we (Soon Hee and Kim Mee) together with Ms Siow, MSC Supervisor went to the WGSN Seminar conducted at SIRS (Singapore Institude of Retail Studies).
We are glad that we were given a chance to attend this seminar and learn new things beyond what we are taught and trained in school.

We enjoyed the seminar and would like to share with you some of the things we've learnt.

Fashion trend for Spring and Summer 2012
The 3 main trends:
1) Primal Futurism: is a combination of ancient mythologies and futuristic aesthetic. It means using the ancient ideas/designs and incorporate with modern ones.
2) Cinematic: it is about imagination, which comes from the inspiration of cinema/movie themes.
3) JPEG GEN: a new concept from the new generation that practises pastiche and montage. This trend tends to dress older than their age; a trend staredt in London and China.

Global Retail Trends 2011
The 3 main ideas:
1) Refine and focus: the traditional value has been chosen for retailing as it creates more stylish and fashionable sightlines.
2) Convenience: as people are getting busier, thus convenient store locations are chosen to suit the people’s lifestyle.
3) Mobile Retailing: global retailing has changed their sales strategies to online retailing making use of Facebook and iPhone apps which helps to improve sales revenue and reach the world.

Also, we were introduced to an interesting commercial of Old Navy promoting their hot new brand.

MSC Creativity Series – Gift wrapping Workshop

on Thursday, May 19, 2011
On 5th May 2011, students from the MSC Studio attended an interesting gift wrapping workshop conducted by their supervisor, Ms Brenda Lim.

Let's see what the students have to say of the workshop . . . .

"Some of us who do not have any experience in gift wrapping learn much from this session. This exposure allows us to wrap gifts within a limited time as time was taken. We also learnt different ways and techniques of wrapping gifts."

~ MSC Studio, Gifts Team

"After going through the gift wrapping workshop, we are more confident in wrapping gifts. As wrapping paper has to be purchased, we have the responsibilities to make sure the customers are satisfied. Also, this skill is useful for us as we can apply it to wrap nice gifts for our loved ones.
